A Celebration of Jinx Beer's 80th Year, "Question and Answer", Jinx Beers, 2012/03/03

[caption: Did you have any political obstacles getting LN published or distributed?]
Beers: I think the most interesting thing that happened to me was when I tried to get–when I first tried to get the LN into the prisons because we do have a lot of lesbians–some lesbians in the prison systems. And, of course, you know in the 1970s, mid 1970s, the immediate reaction for that was you’ve got to be kidding. We’re not going to let something like the lesbian news into the prisons. But we did, because I was able to convince them that this wasn’t a porno magazine for lesbians. Okay. This was real news and information. I had the help from the Metropolitan Community Church, their prison ministry–I had some assistance with them. And we were able to get into, get copies into the prison. But other than these really straight companies like the phone company and the post office, I really didn’t have any trouble. Not at all.
