Celebrating 35 Years of Black Lesbian Organizing/History in L.A.

On February 24th, 2024, the West Hollywood Lesbian Speaker Series hosted an event to celebrate and share the history of two of the most successful black lesbian organizations in Southern California. ULOAH (United Lesbians of African Heritage) and BLU (Black Lesbians United). Learn all about how these black lesbians organized and collectively formed these thriving community groups in Los Angeles over the past 35 years. Before there was the internet or social media or email these women created a lasting community through ULOAH and then via BLU - which is still creating safe spaces for our community, while adapting with our ever-changing society! Our panelists: Yolanda Whittington, Jeannette Bronson and Danielle Myers-Porter will share the collective herstory of the organizations through their personal stories and experiences. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and/or just be amazed at how a group of intrepid women used every resource available to them to create something that was unimaginable to most 35 years ago.
